A Tale of Great Cities

A Tale of Great Cities

Below is a small step down memory lane. Even as Java bulls her way through Outlands, memories flood through the Wild family of the great cities in this world, and how Java will get to see the Alliance counterparts for the first time.

From a December 2010 entry:
"In vanilla WoW the biggest and most populated horde city in all of Azeroth was Orgrimmar. Maxed out level 60 players set their hearthstone there, and the tales are legendary of the lag and DCs (disconnects) of those early days in the crowded city. When Outlands arrived on the scene, Org became an afterthought, a stopover for leveling toons. There were still a few level 60s and soon to be 70s hanging out there, but it's boom days were over. The new city for level 70s (the new max level) was the neutral city of Shattrath."

Back to the present: The jewel of Terrokar is still the neutral city of Shattrath. Wild lived here a very long time and participated in a long string of dungeon and raid runs and other guild events. Like Wild, Java agreed to accept the sanctuary of the Aldo Rise faction, shunning the competing faction, Scryer's Tier. Memories begin to blur together, but I believe Wild stayed at Shattrath long enough to win a flying mount and in the process reached level 70, the max at the time. Java won't dawdle here very long, however. As soon as the quests peter out she'll be gone, continuing her conquest of Outlands.

Java had barely entered Nagrand when she hit level 67. Wild knew the horde base was at Garador. Java has no idea where the alliance base is. After much searching she got tired and bored and camped in the wilderness for the night. PS - Later, Almond passed along the info that Java should be looking for the town of Telaar in Nagrand to spend future, safer nights.

It's a new day after some rain and the end of another maintenance. Java spent a restless night and was up early. Her thoughts strayed to the sheer scope of the journey she was undertaking. Beyond Outlands, there is Northrend and the great flying city of Dalaran. She must also face Cataclysm, not yet on Java's horizon, but there waiting.

Wild remembers: "The blasted and reshaped city of Orgrimmar baffled a younger Wild for awhile, but the underlying framework of the city had not really changed. Wild soon began recognizing the familiar layout beneath the changes and has settled in, comfortable once again in his old haunting grounds with it's new face."

Java will have to forge new memories for that period when she gets there, most likely in Stormwind City. Even then she isn't done, for Pandaria and Draenor are still to come. Pandaria has many great cities. Draenor has no great city at all to define itself. Only war, and outposts like Vol'Mar. Perhaps her history is a bit rusty, but the tapestry is immense.

Javajoo stifles a shudder. There remains a great deal to be done.
