Back to the Outland Portal

Back to the Outland Portal

As part of the continuing battle with the Legion, Keya was tasked to re-open the Outland Portal and defeat the Legion soldiers that came through it. The first time Keya made the attempt, she took her usual stance, figuring her armor would protect her. Well, the two soldiers that came through were as heavily armored as she was and the two on one battle took way too long. By the time Keya killed them there were four more coming through, two of them opening new portals for more legion soldiers.

Keya was going to lose this battle, so she broke away and took flight. The portal reset itself, and Keya got to try again. Keya played this game four times while learning the patterns of the portal. The soldiers came in waves, each new wave stronger and more numerous each time. Keya might have been better served if she had gone to Havoc spec and it's better manueverability. Keya's heavy armor and stand and fight method was not optimal. She had to be constantly on the move. Keya was stubborn, though. She refused to change her spec.

On her fifth attempt she handled the first wave quickly. The second wave required shifting from one side of the area to the other, killing the numerous little demons. More demons flooded in, creating new portals that had to be smashed down. The nastier ones she had to kite (when did Keya learn to kite?) , striking hard and then escaping while gathering her fragments which gave back health. More waves poured through. Wildshard himself would have been proud of Keya's juking and jiving, slashing and running.

The sixth wave included a bunch more little demons and one great big elite. One on one, this was Keya's kind of fight. She learned immediately her opponent would not fall easily. So Keya continued to kite, trying to stay outside the demon's attacks. She was forced to use her short healing spell. One save me spell used up. She rushed in, firing everything she had, and veered away, the elite bloodied but more angry than hurt. Again and again she played cat and mouse, monster against demon hunter, and the monster was winning. She was forced to use Metamorphis to gain back her health, a powerful heal she would likely only get to use once, and the fight was far from over.

The battle raged on. The demon edged down to below half strengh. Keya was in far worse shape, her vision flagging with her strength. She was out of fragments for healing, her health slipping to 3% even as she kept up the hit and run attacks. One good blow could end the battle from either side. That blow came from Keya. The elite fell. A gasping Keya finally took the demon down.

For her heroics Archmage Modera came to Dalaran to give Keya a great boon. The "great boon" turned out to be another wheel on her artifact with four new ranks on it. It's greyed out, so they can't be slotted until the right conditions are in place. The ranks are nice, but Keya would have prefered something nasty she could use right away. Sigh. The battle against the elite in Outland was one heck of a lot of fun, despite how close she was to getting herself killed. I was truly nervous and I DID NOT want to have to do the whole thing over again. Once was plenty enough.

Beyond that victory, Keya's future is clouded. Her third relic slot remains unavailable. One sign of hope is that the wheel with the four new ranks are actually accessible. The rank "Illidari Durability" now shows that it can be activated by 1.9 million AP. She assumes that the other three ranks will start to link up once the first one is completed. Guess what? Keya has 1.7 million AP already. So screw that third relic slot!
