FPS Importance to Warcraft

FPS Importance to Warcraft

Yes, in today's dangerous world FPS is often defined as "First Person Shooter." Many players may wish that they could use FPS on Blizzard, but that wouldn't be nice.

FPS in game terms means "Frames Per Second." The higher the FPS the smoother the motion flows inside the world of Warcraft. The speed and smoothness of play USED to be pretty consistent, maintaining solid FPS as high as 90. It was something you rarely thought about. I never see that kind of framerate anymore. Here are some general observations from this morning:

(1) Chaitee at the Stormwind Auction House: FPS runs around 50-60 FPS, which is okay for the light work Chaitee handles. It's also about as good as it gets these days.

(2) On Dalaran at any given time: FPS can vary significantly, skittering from lows in the 30s to around 50ish if just moving around.

(3) On the Broken Isles Keya is lucky to get 35 FPS, which means short periods of being able to move to being frozen in place for seconds at a time.

(4) On the Fel Hammer Keya can barely move with FPS as low as 23.

Sometimes it's not too bad. Away from the newer content it's almost normal (ie, 50ish). Sista ran the Bastion of Twilight raid ten times yesterday collecting mats. She even stayed and killed things in the Maw of Madness for an hour while she had a potion up that increased the take. There were a few hiccups, but for the most part the game ran smoothly. When Sista ran Naxramas a couple days ago, though, things started smoothly but began degenerating and she never finished.

One comment about the Maw of Madness. For anyone who wants to farm embersilk and collect gear that can be turned into Hypnotic Dust, there is no better place. The Bastion can only be farmed once a week, but the Maw is always there and always spitting out an endless stream of mobs to kill. One day Sista is going to go there and it will be gone. So far, though, it's production is endless.

Back to FPS. Doing something worthwhile is a crap shoot, basically, dependant on the FPS at the time. Still, I keep playing. But then I'm addicted. I need an intervention.
