The Padres first home game is on Tuesday, 9 Apr. They've had a very rough first week of the season, all of it on the road, including the above sweep by the Rockies. Of course, I'd much rather enjoy the simulation results, where the Padres command first place.

The plan to replace the family room TV hit a potential snag on Saturday when the subject of TV remotes came up. Now, understand that I lost the battle of who owns the TV remote a long time ago. The Cox cable remote handles all things for the cable system and also turns the TV on and off. Judi owns that remote and defends it diligently. My only job is to work the Bose remote control when we want to watch a DVD movie. There is an arcane process involved with making that happen and Judi wants nothing to do with it. Those two remotes are all that we use.

Even a basic HDTV has a lot more bells and whistles than our old TV, which of course comes with it's own remote. The new audio system also comes with a remote, but it seems like overkill for just audio. When I talked with a tech about it, he said they provide a full featured, trainable remote in case I want to use it as the single remote for everything. No way I'll pry Judi's hands away from her Cox remote, but I may be able to use the audio remote for the speakers and the blu-ray player. Oh yes, the blu-ray player will also come with a remote. The specter of going from two remotes to four could sink the whole deal. My task is to make sure that everything she could do with her Cox remote is still there for her, with no complications. All those other remotes? That's for me to figure out.

Step 1 is still waiting to happen - that is, the actual purchase of the new TV stand. We know what we want, and we know where to get it. I'm just waiting for the "Go" signal.

One reason we are still in slow mode for the new TV is that work has ramped up again on our enclosed patio. The structure is now in place, and the electrician is doing his magic today. It is going to be even better than we imagined. Can't wait to see it completely finished.
