Wednesday
(17 Apr) - The Seattle Padres and San Diego Mariners
Yesterday
I made a comment about the Padres being so bad that it was almost a badge of
honor to revel in our ineptitude. Our northern cousin in the American League
has also gotten off to a most terrible beginning of the season, although before
Tuesday night The Mariners boasted a 6-8 record, far better than the Padres
3-10.
It
was with some surprise this morning that the San Diego Union-Tribune (the
"U-T") newspaper had an article comparing the pretty amazing
similarities between the two teams.
Let's
go down the list:
*
Beautiful ball parks in similar waterfront locations
*
Attendance is way down and fans feel alienated
*
Opened the season with losing road trips
*
Won their home openers, then went back to losing
*
Both teams moved their fences in this season
*
Two best hitters hurt: the Padres Chase Headley and Mariners Michael Morse (6
homers in 9 games), both with weird finger injuries
*
Swept by the only teams they beat in the 2012 standings (Colorado
and Houston)
As
of this morning, Seattle
is 6-9 and the Padres are on a two game winning streak with a 4-10 record.
Siamese twins? By the way, the Padres and Mariners play against each other next
month.
