Weekend (31 Oct) - WoW Snore Fest

Weekend (31 Oct) - WoW Snore Fest

There was a Halloween party, a night of Texas Hold'em, getting some work done on the RV, it rained and we discovered a "fixed" leak in our patio roof wasn't fixed anymore, and . . . well, there wasn't much Warcraft on the agenda this weekend. The good news is that we have a lot of candy to eat (less than thirty candy crazed kids showed up at our door Sunday night) and I came home with more money than I left with from the poker game.

On the Warcraft front Happy, Lost, and Philly kept up with the Auction House, although sales were slow. Philly has been impressed with her fellow glyph sellers. Before the patch most glyphs could be bought for under 5g each, and the market was dead flat. Then the patch came out, making glyphs a hot commodity - at least until everyone had bought all the glyphs they wanted. Knowing the rush was coming, glyph sellers set initial prices very high. It wasn't unusual to see prices as high as 100g, and getting some sales. When Philly decided to enter the market a week after the patch, she did her research and determined that she could enter the market on glyphs where the price point was at 50g each. Since that time she has watched the prices on all glyphs continue to degrade as more and more buyers got everything they needed. What is impressive about the sellers, though, is that they/we (including Philly) have grimly held on to every margin of profit that we can. Very few sellers have dumped glyphs on the AH at bargain prices. The price falls, but only by a gold or two at most each day. An expired glyph that Philly posted for 40g on Friday, for example, could be re-posted for 38g on Monday, even though ten sellers might have posted bids under Philly's original 40g. That is incredible. There are no more 50g valued glyphs, and very few still selling for 40g, but considering that glyph prices will keep falling until they reach equilibrium at under 5g apiece, it's amazing how well the community is making that decline as slow as possible and squeezing every last gold piece out of it.

The lucrative flask market, though, has finally failed after struggling mightily to stay afloat. That's very bad news for Happy, who probably made 30% of his profits from it. The flasks are used for raiding, primarily, and there is less raiding now. New flasks will come out with Cata, too, making the current flasks virtually obsolete, so the mats used to the make the flasks are getting less and less available as well. What used to sell for an average price of 16-18g each slipped to 14g, then to 12g, and this morning (Monday) had slipped under 10g each. Unlike the glyph sellers, flask sellers are dumping their goods, trying to get at least something back before they become completely un-sellable. Smart flask makers will take advantage of any price dumping of the mats for the flasks, since they are used in skilling up the Alchemy profession. JB is holding on to those mats.

Lao reports that she went on a leveling binge over the weekend and made it to level 51. That puts her in Mery's pvp bracket (Mery is level 55) and we could soon be terrorizing the 50s pvp bracket and/or dungeons later this week. The DER family is on hiatus, probably until the release of Cata.
