It was much later that Java got a chance to again tackle the quests in the chain "Operation Gnomeregan." When we left off, Java was trying to find his way both out of the tram station and out of the city of Ironforge. Java perused the Ironforge map of the city. Hmm, surprisingly, the city layout looks suspiciously similar to the horde Undercity. Both have a circular pattern of streets and buildings, divided into quadrants. With the map as a guide, Java found his way to the Ironforge Gates and let himself out into the wintry sunshine.
Outside Ironforge
Java even managed to find his way to Steelgrill's Depot, the next leg of the chain. Java did complete the chain, but graciously stepped aside so that his long time partner, Chaitee, could tell the rest of the tale.
Chaitee and her combat pet, Stretch, were delighted to get some time out in the field. With Java's recent experience as a guide, Chaitee had no trouble getting to Ironforge. Java called her a cheat (in fun), since Chaitee was already staying in Stormwind City. Chaitee called Java a chicken for worrying about the tram. Chaitee had no such qualms. It was a quick, easy ride on the Deeprun Tram from Stormwind directly to Ironforge.
Chaitee admitted that she checked with her friend Ando about how to get out of Ironforge with the five volunteers for the first quest, "A Few Good Gnomes." She arrived at Steelgrill's Depot and completed the quest. Since that quest was so similar to one on the horde side, I wondered if the rest of the alliance quests would mirror the horde quests. The short answer was a resounding No! All but one other quest after the first one one (that an under level 75 toon could do) were very different and unique.
Chaitee's Volunteers
The second quest started just a few feet away with Drill Sergeant Steamcrank. The drill sergeant ran Chaitee through a series of military protocol commands, from a salute to a Cheer for the troops! Chaitee was a little over-exuberant and executed all the commands faster than the drill sergeant wanted. She had to go through them all a second time, much slower, so that the sergeant could keep up.
The next two quests in the chain didn't appear in the list of quests on the wowhead site. The two quests were a surprise, and a nice one, since they were the most fun to do.
The quests "In and Out" and "One Step Forward" had Chaitee doing the Cha Cha Cha! in a mechanical contraption shaped like a spider. Chaitee had to test the ejection button (because you just never know when one of those things are going to blow up!). Then she had to test the mechanical legs by shaking each one several times and then bouncing backward. Finally, Chaitee got to shoot the guns and get in some target practice. Pretty cool.
Chaitee then got to pilot a helicopter for the next quest, "Vent Horizon." This one was a little like the frog throwing on the horde side, but the allie quest had Chaitee throwing goblin gadgets to close some vents around the dungeon of Gnomeregan.
When Wild's family did the quests on the horde side, the most challenging and interesting quest was the battle with the tiger. The most challenging alliance quest did not live up to the tiger fight, but "Prepping the Speech" did pose it's own kind of difficulties for those of us "directionally challenged." Chaitee had to locate three npcs and test a speech that would be given at the end of the chain. Chaitee appreciated the effort Java went through to find those three, which was not easy. Even with Java's help, though, Chaitee had some false starts before she finally tracked all three down. Chaitee finished the chain by presenting the edited speech to Capt Tread Sparknozzle at Steelgrill's Depot.
As her reward, Chaitee received Gnomeregan Pride, a disguise/costume that turned Chaitee in a "Gnomeregan Infantry."
The Gnomeregan Infantry disguise is - well, maybe you should decide. Below are pics of Chaitee and her Gnomeregan Infantry disguise. In the previous post are pics of JB and her Darkspear Warrior disguise. You can decide which disguise is the better.
